Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church
Our Heritage
Rooted in a long history of faith and community, Pleasant Valley Country Church remains affiliated with the United Methodist Church while continuing to serve as a welcoming place for worship, gatherings, music, reflection, and celebration.
A New Chapter in the Church’s History
In 1884, the Pleasant Valley congregation made an important decision that would shape the church’s future for generations to come. Originally part of the Bible Christian Canadian Conference, the congregation chose to unite with the Methodist Episcopal Church in the United States.
At the time, church leaders and members believed it would be best for the Wisconsin congregations to belong to a denomination based within the United States rather than remain connected to the proposed new church organization in Canada. After thoughtful discussion and a special meeting held at Pleasant Valley Church on January 15, 1884, the decision to join the Methodist Episcopal Church was approved by a large majority of the congregation and later supported by nearly all members.
In a letter written that same year to the Bible Christian Conference, church leaders expressed deep gratitude for the guidance and support they had received over the previous twenty-five years while also respectfully requesting release from the Canadian conference. The letter reflected both appreciation for the church’s roots and hope for the future ministry of the congregation in Wisconsin.
Following this transition, Pleasant Valley became part of the Wisconsin Methodist Conference, where pastors were appointed by the conference bishop. Over the years, the church served alongside neighboring congregations and continued to weather the changing seasons of rural life while remaining a faithful gathering place for the surrounding countryside.
Today, Pleasant Valley Country Church continues that long tradition of community, faith, music, and meaningful gatherings in this peaceful rural setting.
